Dornier Aries was developed by Dornier MedTech, the pioneer of extracorporeal shock wave technology, specifically for use in orthopedic practice. In everyday practice, focused shock wave therapy is often combined with radial ESWT. This is precisely where Dorniers revolutionary new development comes in: Dornier Aries combines the advantages of both technologies in a compact, transportable shock wave system. With the help of the so-called Smart Focus technology, focused shock waves with high peak pressure are introduced into the tissue via a wide therapy channel. Conventionally focused shock wave systems are derived from the technology of lithotripsy (kidney stone disintegration), in which very high energy densities are applied to a very small area. Both in the classical orthopedic therapy of calcific shoulder, epicondylitis or heel spur and in the context of myofascial treatment, a larger therapeutic area is of considerable benefit: The structures are reached reliably and with high efficiency!
The ED (energy flux density), which is often quoted in device comparisons or in the description of scientific studies, is not a very meaningful performance parameter for the evaluation of shock wave systems or study designs, because the value describes an area of only 1 square millimeter. Much more important is the applied energy over an area of 12mm (E12) that can actually reach the target region sustainably. This is where Dornier Aries 2 excels with its unique therapy channel, known as 'Smart Focus'. The energy is focused with low loss in a wide, cigar-shaped stimulation channel and works from the surface to the deepest tissue structures. The special design of the therapy channel enables a therapeutically effective penetration depth of up to 7.5 cm. This activates the body's own repair mechanisms over a large area.
The intuitive operation of the Dornier Aries 2 system takes place via a generous touchscreen. Prepared therapy suggestions are conveniently selected via the indication-specific menu structure. The lightweight and ergonomic handpiece allows comfortable, low-fatigue handling. The shock wave frequency or energy level is dosed directly on the applicator via the integrated keys.
